Will be fishing a few private beats on the Dee this year with my boss and would like the forums opinion on what would be perceived as a reasonable tip to the Gillie
Thanks in advance

Correct me if I am wrong all you ghillies out there but I am led to understand that it is 10% of the cost of your rod per day. Usually the respected minimum is £10 per rod per day. You can give them as much as you see fit £10 - £100 per rod/day

Don't eat yellow snow and be good to your mother. Plant your tatties early.

Anything less than a tenner is insulting IMHO - unless the quality of 'service' for the day was cr*p in which case you simply should not tip. Tipping for the sake of it is plain daft, no fisher should feel obliged to tip. A good days fishing should always be warmly rewarded Other than that it inadvisable to take or eat biscuits to the waters edge, the crunching noises will often disturb fish in their lies ;D I'll get my coat.....................................

I have always tipped the ghillie and i normally hand over £20. At the end of the day i suppose it is up to the Angler and what he / she can afford.

And if your Ghillie arrives in the morning driving a Range Rover, the best tip you could give him would be 1st thing in the morning,it goes something like this "Malcolm did you bring the jumpleads" James Chalmers If your fishing companion turns up in a black VW Passet the question ought to be have you got a tow rope? I don't think poor old Mr Green has been the same since you totally blocked his road.

I always give my ghillie a tip. But at the end of the day the ghillie has already been paid for his services by booking that day on his beat. I was told last season by this particular ghillie that he lives on his tips and saves his wages.

Let's hope the Inland Revenue's not logged in - for the sake of the Ghillie of course.

Here is a prime example of being told it is compulsory rather than optional. This is taken from a well know fishing beat, of which shall remain nameless, and there are many more suggesting the same.
.(quote) It is normal to tip the gillie and the beat owners recommend a minimum rate of £8 per fisherman per day.

I don't tip - ever. Nobody tips me in my work nor do I tip another worker. It's his or her job - get over it

Sorry I see no compulsion, I would still suggest it is optional, the words normal and recommend do not force you to do anything.
