The answer is, there is obviously no answer. If anyone is being put off looking at or contributing to this forum because of sensitive subject matter, then I for one apologise forany contribution, especially so if those are professional gillies whose side I am most definitely upon.

Interesting thread, not one with any definitive conclusion though. The nearest it gets is said by Willie the Gillie above, ie it's personal preference.
As far as I am concerned, a good gillie gets a good tip.An average gillie gets the price of a few drinks. A poor gillie gets no tip.
