Had a nice young man from the Aberdeen anglers association out today and he did really well with 5 fish to 25lbs to his own rod. The lads name is Ross MacLean so if you know him give him a big well done. ;D

Just a brief report from a couple of days at Maryculter. Thanks to Stuart and Graham I was able to head down on Tuesday morning at 5.30am. A very early start works well on the Lower Dee. The fish were holding for short periods in the uppermost pool called High Bank. This pool has a narrow neck opening up to a broad body with a deep channel running down the middle for over 100m. After this, the pool widens and slows with strategically placed large rocks submerged to act as croys all the way down the Maryculter side (opposite bank is Altries/Lower Drum). I had a couple of grilse and I lost three others Went down again during the evening and lost one fish. Yesterday, I went down at 5.30am with Stefan who was quickly into a fish I invited my other fishing mate, Bob, to have a go with my rod and the b**tard had the cheek to catch one This is me You can see I need a new photographer and ghillie (tut-tut Stefan) Come on, man - it won't bite For the two days, we had 11 fish but only 6 landed. Largest fish was 12lb. All fish were sea-liced. My set-up was 13' Loop Blue Line, Snowbee Int. Shooting Head (the monkey puke one from T&S) and the following fly This fly is my version of a PBP conehead. This is a good fly - had 70+ fish last September on the Lower Dee. Hooked every fish in this report. Tied on Shumakov aluminium tube. As the season progresses, we change to an all orange version although the version above still takes fish during the last week of the season. Fished this morning but didn't see a fresh fish - is the run over?

Good to see that the MSW fish are running in numbers although the number being reported that have bleeding from the vent is a cause for concern.

Aye Alan it is a concern though and one that i am finding increasingly worrying. We have a good amount of rods tomorrow so should see a good catch especially with the big tides bringing pods of fish through the beat regularly.Could be a day like the ones we can recall when the Edinburgh "Mafia" were on the job out by drumoak. ;D ;D Although plenty of availability next week and at current prices is very reasonable value for money at present. Wonder how much somone would pay hypothetically if they knew they would get 5 fish up to 25lbs? I started the thread as I suspected there would be good sport on the lower Dee and i still think this will be the case for the next wee while.

It was a great day at Park today, thats for sure! Thanks Ken. ;D It would be fair to say that it was non stop action all day what with the amount of fish we had, lost or pulled.

Lovely pics and reports boys - looks like you're having an awesome time on the Dee just now. Sloggi, I think I've got one of those flies in my box from the fly swap - dare say I'll gee it a swim next time I'm out Cheers

Managed a visit to the dee (first in 6 weeks) Fished Middle Drum today and hooked 3 grilse/salmon in the first hour landing only the first (5lb). I then lost another grilse just before lunch. Good way to start the morning. ;D I decided to head home just after 2pm but on my way home stopped in by Blairs and managed another albeit slim grilse 3lb and lost another fish 10 minutes later. Both grilse landed were covered in long tailed sea lice. All in all a good day on the lower dee and there appears to be fish running in with every tide, long may it continue.

Will you be fishing Blairs this season? Did you get the fish in the Powberry or down in the Blair's Run? Will be a good height in the Blair's Run.

Fished the Powberry first but no joy, possibly the reason why Powberry boys were nowhere to be seen. I hooked both fish well down the Blairs run, just above the tree

These were the first I've heard of coming from the pool. I'm hoping the new C&R policy by the beat will reduce the number of "anglers" and as a "Powberry Boy", I will be able to get to fish the Woods and Bridge Pools Only fished these two pools once last year There appears to be a run with most tides at the moment . Be there about 2-3hours after high tide

Sloggi,
I drove by at 7am this morning and there was two guys fishing the Powberry.
It's good to see fish coming off the river this far down, hopefully one or two will have stayed back and encourage their friends to stop a little longer.
Yes, the bridge and wood pools are excellent, but do take a bit of a hammering in the last 6 weeks of the season. I'm not surprised you head down to the 'quieter' stretch of the beat.
The C&R is an excellent move and may reduce the number of rods, but somehow I think the anglers will still turn up in droves when the pools fill up.

anything doing at sluie today graham? Hi Ross Blanked But an amazing sight between 17.30 & 18.30 The stretch between Kelpie & Lower Jetty suddenly became alive with fish, splash, splash everywhere, then stopped as suddenly as it started This preceded a heavy rain shower, anything to do with air pressure?
