Some difference a week makes to the river level, Monday last week it reache 18ft above summer level ! yesterday, monday it was it was about six feet above summer level. The otter had been busy, seems to like the taste of pregnant hen fish, roe all over the place,, A fair amount of Shelduck around and the Goldeneyes arrived about three weeks ago .Terrible weather , no doubt the water will be back up tomorrow.

Dennis, I've been trolling thru Fish-Tay site....is Kercock booked up from April onwards?? Tell me it isn't so!!! Working as a freelance I just can't book fishing way in advance..don't know when I'll be off and probably like others on the forum find the sites really useful for shorter notice bookings.
Cheers

Tonight it shows right through the seasonHowever I cannot see that all of the regulars have got back to the office about whether they are taking the same weeks next season. It is only December, I reckon the proverbial gun has been jumped,.........mmmmmm must make a call in the morning ! Iain, relax.

The reasoning behind the 3 rods etc I to prevent block booking by single rods ie a single rod for several Saturdays and so on,,

Was down at the beat yesterday, cleaning up the banks a bit, had a long look at the changes in the bits I could see,no boat on yet. I saw that on the left bank from the Oak tree downstream we had lost three of the Alders, two at the Oak tree and the one opposite the first croy, that single tree stopped a lot of fish. I might try a clump of willow in place of it for the fast growth with another Alder in close proximity for the long term, these single trees on a fairy bare bank are highly important bits of gear. I am certainly open to any suggestions from the expert members of the forum. On how to replace a full grown Alder or two very very quickly. Transplanting is NOT an option with large trees. small is no problem. The Garden Pool on upper has changed a hellova lot and is now a one flyrod run,it is a verymuch shorter run and a very much longer quieter area below it with deep water close in and a very long cast to reach the stream. All that is at 3ft 3" on the gauge at the upper hut. Who knows, it may improve that pool a lot, its a massive change,so far. The one thing for sure is it will change things further downstream. There is a real big tree stuck in the stream above the ruined cottage, that will need to be dragged in and chopped up asap. That of course assuming we don't have another moonsoon and the water height to take it away ! All part of the learning curve on a gravelly beat,Start learning the beat every year,be sure that nothing stays the same.Ah well. there will be ghillies with a lot less problems than I have as the water levels drop.

What I can tell you Alan is that the level this afternoon2.30 at the botton hut gauge showed about 7ft and by 4.30 it was up 2ft and rising ......Fast. I am not too hopefull of any joy on Monday, if we are fishing. I heard this afternoon that Dunkeld House had cancelled the opening day fishing there. The 3rd of Feb is a long way away yet though. !

Dennis,
I'm on Islamouth on the 9th and Kercock on the 10th of Feb, so I am praying for some hard frosts an bright cold days before then.
I cannot wait to wet a line again. It will be good to catch up and enjoy some banter.
See you on the 10th. Will I bring a wet suit?
Alan, remember to leave some fish for me.

Gary, posh beat first then slumming on Kercock, On Islamouth a suit is mandatory,it's so posh.Kercock, come in a boilersuit if you so wish. You are welcome anyway (no cracks about birthday suits now lads ) The river today had been up around 3 ft overnight and left my two boat in a muddle. One was up the bank ,but I was able, with help, from the other Dennis to get it back in the water. The other boat had slipped down the bank as the water dropped but had tipped over on it's side on the way down and we eventually righted it but it was brimful of river Tay ! It took a while to bail the ba&$*4d out, that stuff I don't need on a day off ! ! Still, there is always tomorrow ! For those who watch the water levels on fishtay, the site shows clearly that the Tay dropped from around 10am onwards, yesterday. P#SH Try for a Saturday cancellation Garry, there are bound to be one or two before the 10th Feb, maybe.

Today the 22nd we had our first springer of the year, caught on fly and released, ;D The fish was around six pounds in weight, there were a couple of other splashes and two almost definately springers seen running through in the cottage stream where the 6lb fish was caught Alastair Fyfe was the man who caught it,Ally is the Ballot Secretary for the Perth and District Angling Association . To say he was a happy bunny is a serious understatement. The fly was ,he said a Black Dart tube, not one of our well known spring flies :-/it has to be said. However it did the trick,so well done him,or should it be well tied tied??

Excellent news - hopefully it is a sign of better things to come.
Looks like the levels and wind should remain sensible this week - but cold.
