If she can't manage try Elle Macpherson (so long as she doesn't throw the cutlery about). If its Jade I'm staying at home - Delfur or no Delfur...

OK boys, Ive spoken with Jock and Friday 11th May is the only realistic oppourtunity if you want prime fishing, otherwise maybe sometime around June 21/22 which is a fishing slot I have yet to fill. I am happy to allow half rods on an AM/PM basis, we will also set aside an area purely for tackle testing and review so you could fill a day but only pay for half. Decent accomodation is available very near at very good prices and you could try and do the doule with Kercock if you wished. Any takers? Alan, Will have to pass on this one unfortunately, I'm on the Tweed that Friday, hope to attend a future one though, great idea!!

Go for it WG - either will do me just fine! PT I'm now trying to get Claudia Schiffer to help with the lunch; if anyone believed I could get Rothes or Delfur in May they will believe the last bit as well. I'm disappointed now Malcom. Both beats, according to FishSpey, seem very under-rodded. Surely they could sqeeze a few of us in. ;D My 16 year daughter is better looking than CS, she can do lunch instead.

£90 per day for this beat - is this not just a bit OTT for a beat that only managed 147 fish last year?

Hi Riverwalk, Tried there a couple of weeks ago - unfortunately the ghillie (stan?) was away so the advice given wasn't all that good. I also don't like people smoking in the hut when I am trying to have lunch. For some reason the catches have tailed off there when comparing the beat with Dunkeld and L. Kinnaird

I'ts down to what kind of salmon fishing you prefer - On Newtyle we are very much a fly fishing beat with only 2 of the 147 fish landed last season on the worm. Whilst our neighbours (who are all great friends of mine) up and down the river have absolutely first class holding water during the Summer but struggle in low water for flows that suits the fly. If we were to hammer the beat with worm I am positive that we could double our returns however I dont like to see fish being gut hooked which as you guys know is nearly always the case. We cater for fly fishing firstly because we have quality fly water (2 miles) and that's the reason we set our rod prices higher than a few of the other neighbouring beats. Regards Jock

Regards Jock Seems a bit elitist to me by trying to keep non-fly fishers of the beat. It also denies people on a lower income access to the beat - shame as there are a lot of good anglers who can't afford £90 per day - I thought this mentality had gone from the Tay. The ownr of this bet should remember the hardworking class fans that put money in his pocket in the first place rather than this 2 bob snob attitude.

Who is this celebrity beat owner what brought such pleasure to the cloth capped masses? Should I know? Is it Norman Wisdom?

shrimpman, that particular owner always had the money in his pocket,he inherited the beat and is a former footballer.(Which means, there is a distinct possibility that he rolled around a lot like Norman Wisdom ! )

Dighty Nothing to do with denying people, mentality or any other mis-conception. Newtyle fishes best with the fly - just the way the land lies. Our prices are pitched there or there abouts and our fishers seem happy enough with everything. This asset of the beat owners is a fraction of their portfolios and they leave the pricing of the beat and most other things to me, which so far seem to be working & growing. Why don't you swing by and introduce yourself & I'll show you around. Bring your fly rod and maybe with a bit of luck I'll pinpoint why our clients are happy enough with things Regards Jock Monteith 07968 145033

Jock, Many thanks for the invitation, you're on, I'll be in touch! I think you misunderstood the intentions of my post though, I was trying to lightheartedly convey to Shrimpman (no offence SM ) that I disagree with his notion that the hard working people who allegedly put your employer where he is (which may or may not be the case although appears to be the latter) deserve some payback in the form of low priced salmon fishing with no restrictions provided the method is legal. I have no problem with Newtyle being maintained as a fly only beat, I'd be very glad to fish it some day. I don't think that's elitist (but if it was I wouldn't mind - I like a bit of elitism now and then and I'm from Dundee! Wife's a bit posh though...she's from Crawley). :

Will I need to fix the hole in me waders? It's about lower arse area and was caused by a wayward double spey in an upstream gust of hurricane proportions, the less said the better . Only a small hole but with the water pressure waist deep it's enough to make the right leg of me pants look like I didn't get out of the river fast enough , and I squelch when walking . Not a good image in the bar . While we're here, anyone got any good ideas for flees that will do the neccessary next week? Usual suspects OK? As ever, thankful, Dan.
