Fishing the Newtyle beat on Saturday which will be my first time ever on the Tay. ;D
I'm already starting to get the buzz and hope the recent catches is a good sign that i may shake hands again with our silver tourist. Really looking forward to it.

If we get the sharp frost tonight and it stays settled tomorrow - with another sharp frost on Friday night - you'll have it pretty much spot on. Good luck on Saturday Hornet.
Conditions since Sunday have been poor, heavy rain resulting in big, dirty water - this stopped Wednesday, diner time - so god willing, a settled few nights and days with a freeze / ground frost and you'll be okay.

The water with us dropped around four feet overnight and the water was much clearer but we still have around six feet on the gauge, Newtyle seems to fish well in high water, you have to be in with a good chance...............Good luck

Aye, Hopefully now that the rain / snow has eased off in the last few days the river will be looking good plus be kind to us come this Sat. I will be praying that it remains settled to give our party a chance of a pull or two and if not then i will make sure i enjoy the day and experience of fishing somewhere new. ;D Cheers Hornet

Best of luck Hornet - John will take good care of you I am sure and from where I sit the water looks nigh on perfect. Having a wee break from the Tay this week and going to see what mayhem I can cause on the North Esk. Keep yer rod up now - mind !!

As feared big water that was pretty fast. No luck on the fly but was well happy with a cast on a new beat. Two fish were caught from the boats one at 8lb and the other just over 10lb. Both superb with the 8lbner going to Donald who i was with today. One thing i did get from today was one hell of a burnt coupen . Many thanks for the day Jock, Hornet

I do not know what the ideal height for the fly would be on Newtyle but what i did know was one wrong step and i was in the drink big time. I always make sure that I take the Gillie's advice regarding wading especially when I'm on a new beat. I was wading on what is normally grassed banking and fishing my wet 2 with a 3" copper tube. I will definitely be back when the water is slightly lower and allow better wading for my short arse. Good Luck on the 17th Springer, Hornet

About 2ft 6" at Caputh for Newtyle is a good height. I'd prefer it less than that rather than more.

Hi Hornet Great to meet you at the weekend and i'm sure next time your up on the beat the wading will be back to normal. Nae fish and little fishing so far this week but rods on tommorow and Saturday so hopefully we can pick up a few more. Donald was fair pleased with his springer - for a wee fish it played hard. If your planning another visit EOM March early April's a dead cert. (sometimes!!!!!) Give me a call anytime (07968 145033) for up to date info. Best Regards Jock

Fished Newtyle last Saturday with springer and macsalmo. It is a very nice piece of water with a good variety of pools, it will be interesting to try it again when the water is a bit lower. Had a very enjoyable day despite the weather, gale force winds. I would like to thank Jock Monteith (Willie the gillie) for everything on the day and look forward to returning. It was great to meet three fellow forum members. Like wise Graham, a cracking day out. Gary

2 fish came off Newtyle today, including a 24lber. After my weekend John it didn't need to know that Newtyle is a great looking beat with lots of room for the 10 rods, you wouldn't be over crowded with 12. A great day could be had if the forum members took the beat for the day, Im sure we could even split into half days and have a gathering? Any thoughts? When were you thinking of? Prime spring will be roughly in line with the Tummel (late April - mid May). 10 rods takes the beat exclusively. However you could easily fish 12. There are some available days in that period Regardez CLaG
