Great day on the Tweed. 21lb'er - when was the last time the Tweed had a February fish that big??? Caught by yours truly. I was fishing Lower Floors today with my Wife and a pal and his wife. We had 3 springers between us plus a heap of kelts. I had one at 7 & the big un & my mate Charlie had a 6pdr. I had returned the smaller fish in the morning & regrettably this afternoon the ghillie had to chap the big male as it was bleeding. Jim Smaill who netted it said it was the biggest springer he had seen in his 30 years at Lower Floors. I'm away for a dram !!

That is some Springer, very well done. Tweed as you know is usually a 5-12lb spring fishery, so that is a very special fish. Can I ask what the fish fell for? Catches seemed to go up today with the "spinning as well" period. I know on a cold February afternoon if I'd had no takes I 'd try all options. Well done again for a really special fish, did you get any photos to share?

Getting itchy feet again, some nice beats available at the moment - just wish the Tweed wasn't 4 1/2 hours away!

I must confess that it fell for a 2.5inch Black & Gold Devon fished off the multiplier on the swing. Further up the pool I had started with my new Bill Drury Impact S1/S2 Speyline (excellent) and a tube fly but the gusty strong wind quartering down and into me was awkward so I picked up the spinning rod.

That's a real beauty - it's so heavy the gillie is holding the tail up for you. ;D

Yes, as I thought, although a touch under 20. The data you have provided does illustrate that although not common, big springers do run the Tweed. Ashley-Cooper comments on a 43 lber from Rutherford in the 1920's. Now that would be some catch! Still, well done Jim.

What a belter!Looks superb, bet that gave you a memory.... that will last! Biggest springer off Tweed I know of was a 23lb fish, off the Lees several years back, there was a photo in T&S. 20-pounders swim up the River every month of the year, but to catch a fresh February salmon like that is fantastic. Wonder if there's any siblings there. May go sooner than planned!
