I'll post a report of our trip to Rutherford on Sunday.
Anybody else fishing Tweed this week?

Was nearly tempted - sticking to a few hours on the Tyne instead though.
Levels are nice and settled for opening day, i would expect a handful to be caught.

3 fish off Upper Floors, which is only about 2 miles downstream of Rutherford - at least they've gone over the cauld at kelso.

Personally, I thought that it was a very disappointing opening day for the Tweed in near ideal conditions.
Unless there were not many rods out - which i think would be doubtful?

Not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, but there is plenty of rod availability on FishTweed, particularly on the middle river.
I see on the Dee that Invery did much better than Park - I wonder if the fish have moved higher up river than usual due to the mild weather and highish water levels in January. If true, the beats above Kelso might be holding a few fish with few people out fishing.
And yes, I will be fishing an Eternal Optimist on Saturday. ;D

You probably know the Till has fresh sea trout in February, perhaps a few missed the turning.

Have caught sea trout in April around Norham - mainly small fish around the 1lb mark.
Caught sea trout kelts on the Tyne in February which could easily be mistaken.

Steve and I had a great day on Rutherford but unfortunately no action with springers and very few kelts about. No fish were reported by Fishtweed yesterday, so it looks like the few fish that have entered the river are well spread out. Brilliant sunshine and a water temp of 40F, it could have been April. We had the beat to ourselves and the gillie, Michael, stayed with us all day and even had us out in the boats, which was a new experience for us both. Highlight of my day was fishing the gorge at the bottom of the beat from the boat - very scenic and some great fly water, with a touch of whitewater rafting in places. A very scenic beat with some good fly water and a range of high/low water pools. I'd like to fish it again when there's some fish in the pools! A few photos - fairly poor quality as I had the camera on the wrong light setting: Long Stream, near top of beat: Between the Caulds: Lovers Leap - this is the head of the gorge: The Gorge (Corby Rock?): The journey up and down were murder. The A7 at Langholm is closed so we drove up to Moffat and took an A road to Selkirk via St Marys Loch - more of a cart track than an A road in places. Then fog all the way home on Saturday!

Nice report and pictures.
Was certainly very quiet on the river on Saturday. And the Tay.

Elwyman, thanks for the report and pictures. Rutherford looks very nice and I would love to fish there. Only prob being when I enquired a few years ago it was c.£2,000 for one day a fortnight. Obviously best to pay by the day, vacancies permitting, I think. Lovely looking water though. Marked down as a prime one wh

Y. Esk is right - it must be one of the better value beats at this time of year. No VAT is one reason!

No fish either if the 5 yr average is anything to go by Not brilliant by some standards, but you wouldn't get to fish it for £30/day if it was stuffed full of fish. March figures look better.
